Look at the first ingredient on most skincare bottles it almost always begins with Aqua (Water). That means your formula is mostly water, with a small percentage of active ingredients suspended in it.
When water enters a formula, it creates two problems:
1. It weakens potency. To stabilize a water-based formula, brands must add preservatives, emulsifiers, and fillers to prevent bacterial growth.
2. It displaces nourishment. Every drop of water takes the place of a nourishing oil, butter, or botanical extract your skin could actually use.
